Anita Ekberg

 

Kerstin Anita Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931 - 11 January 2015) was an Swedish actress in American and European film, well-known for her beautiful and stunning body. Her iconic character of Sylvia in Federico Fellini's film La Dolce Vita (1960) made her famous. Ekberg primarily worked in Italy and was granted a permanent resident in the year 1964. Anita Ekberg was the sixth of eight children. Anita was a fashion model during her teens. Ekberg participated in the Miss Malmo competition in 1950 following the advice of her mother. It resulted in her winning the Miss Sweden contest. Even though she could speak little English she travelled to America to compete for the Miss Universe 1951 title. It was an official pageant in the year 1951. The pageant became official in 1952. Ekberg did not win the Miss Universe pageant. However, she was one six finalist. Universal Studios offered her a starlet contract. Ekberg was an Universal starlet, where she was taught the art of elocution, drama and dance. The film she appeared in was The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott and Costello (as the woman in Venus), Take Me to Town (1853), and The Golden Blade (1953).
